Family meetings. Individual therapy for the person who seems most affected. Books, advice, the well-meant intervention of relatives. Something shifts for a while, and then the old dynamic reasserts itself — the same role each of you falls back into, the same conversation that never quite gets had.

This isn’t failure. It’s a sign that the pattern lives in the family as a whole — in its roles, its history, what’s been carried and by whom — not only in whichever person happens to be showing the most visible strain or seeming advantage.

This includes adult sibling relationships — a form of family work that gets far less attention than the parent-child kind, but carries its own long history: rivalry and loyalty that were never quite separable, roles assigned in childhood that outlasted childhood, the particular grief of growing apart from someone you were once closest to by default. Adult siblings are welcome here as their own configuration, not only as part of a larger family in the room.

Our work together begins from a different premise.

No one family member is the problem, even when one person’s distress is what brought everyone here. The pattern belongs to the family’s process, not to any individual within it.

This work meets a family’s relationships as their own living process — not a set of individuals to be corrected, and not a problem assigned to any one person to carry.

We cannot help but organize ourselves around what we’ve survived — individually, and as a family, sometimes across more than one generation. Roles calcify: who carries the family’s unspoken weight, who mediates, who’s cast as the difficult one, who quietly holds everyone else together. These roles aren’t chosen so much as inherited, and they don’t loosen just because they’re named once and discussed.

What is subtle and ingrained is not overlooked here — the family’s particular rhythms, its unspoken rules about who gets to say what, the specific quality of a silence that means something different from every other silence. Nothing is corrected or assigned. The family is met as its own field, with its own intelligence, given the space to reveal what it’s actually organized around.

How Family Work Unfolds

The process is not linear. The needs of the family guide our work, rather than a prescribed form.

Orientation

We begin with how the pattern actually shows up among you, right now, in the room — not a diagnosis of who’s doing what wrong, and not a search for whoever’s most at fault. What’s noticed is the shape of the family’s dance itself: what triggers it, who moves where when it activates, what gets said and what doesn’t.

Integration

The pattern begins to be met as a shared, third thing — the family’s own process — rather than a referendum on any one member’s character. Symptoms, dreams, and reactions that surface around the pattern are followed as they arise, read in the light of a multi-generational history — what’s been carried, and by whom, sometimes across more than one generation. And the roles each of you tends to occupy become visible — who withdraws, who mediates, who carries what — explored as they surface, never imposed as a framework, and never assigned as fault.

Embodiment

The awareness of roles becomes something each of you can choose from, rather than something that chooses you. Boundaries can be expressed without collapse. Choice appears where there was compulsion — including the choice to step into a role that’s usually someone else’s, or to step out of the one you’ve always carried.
