Supervision here is casework, and it is also whatever a case moves through you while you hold it. If you’ve done this work for any length of time, you know this feeling: a client’s material moving through you in ways that don’t reduce to technique, a reaction that surprised you, a pull toward a particular intervention you can’t quite account for. In traditional supervision, this feeling has somewhere to go too \u2014 named, then worked through a particular intervention: disidentified from, integrated, brought back into proportion so the case can stay in focus. Here it isn’t managed toward proportion. It’s explored, and employed: what feels unwanted, inappropriate, or beside the point becomes kinetic energy, propelling the process past the edge you’d otherwise have stayed inside.<\/p>

What emerges past that edge contains a fundamental change of both state and perspective. The reaction that might otherwise have been filtered out, the association judged irrelevant, the intervention not quite accounted for \u2014 in a field this undivided, none of that is noise about you personally. It’s raw material the case itself was wanting to bring into awareness, and going past your own edge is frequently the only way to release it, because it was never only yours to begin with.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

How Supervision Unfolds<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What makes the room, when you present a case? This approach to supervision proceeds from a premise of field awareness: that what you bring contains not only questions but sustenance for all the participants. What’s being met here is concrete \u2014 the reaction that surprised you mid-session, the pull toward an intervention you can’t quite account for, the case that stayed with you for reasons that were never only about the client. None of that is separate from the casework, waiting to be raised once the case itself has been dealt with; it’s already in the room, filtered through what’s alive in you as you speak \u2014 which is why holding the case and your own process as inseparable makes for a deeper, more consciously aware experience, and more authentic development, from supervision.<\/p>

A session might start with a case and move, without much announcement, into what the case is touching in you \u2014 a parallel from your own history, a felt sense you haven’t yet put words to, a pattern you recognize from your own process work. That movement isn’t a detour from supervision. It generally is<\/em> the supervision.<\/p>

What stays constant is the same non-correcting stance used with clients: nothing here is assigned as fault, including your own countertransference. The aim is to see it clearly enough to work with it \u2014 not to explain it away or fix it before the next session.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
